Situated adjacent to and on the north side of Benson's Brook is a collection of early (18th c.) mining remains. The workings are exploiting the so-called 'Gutter Coal' seam which is here close to the surface. The complexity and variation of earthwork remain^ suggest that this is an important survival which provides evidence of the development of the early coal mining techniques employed in the coalfield
